A roadside medical and production facility built as a long low volume, with the public entrance pulled forward in glass.
The brief
The site runs along a main road, which makes the building as much a piece of signage as a piece of architecture.
The bulk of the accommodation is held in a long, low volume set back behind a boundary wall, deliberately plain and cheap to build. Against it the public entrance is pulled forward as a fully glazed block with the company name set into the fascia above, so the way in is unmistakable at driving speed.
The contrast between the two is the whole design: a quiet, functional shed for the work, and one clear, transparent element for the people who arrive. Parking and turning are handled on the road side of the boundary wall so service traffic never crosses the visitor entrance.
